What is Winter Quarter Averaging?
Winter quarter averaging is the annual process used to determine residential sewer charges by averaging household water usage during a three-month period. This average then becomes the basis for monthly sewer rates throughout the next year, providing a straightforward way to calculate charges for the year.
Winter Quarter Averaging Dates
Every year from November 15 - February 15.
Why Winter?
Since outdoor water use (like irrigation) is limited, most of the water used indoors is discharged through the sewer, making winter the best time to calculate charges.
Tips to Lower Your Sewer Charges:
Avoid wasting water during this period by fixing leaks, running full loads in the dishwasher, and limiting outdoor water use.
