Leadership Melissa

Leadership Melissa is the City of Melissa’s official civic academy, a hands-on, nine-week program that invites residents to explore how the City operates from the inside out. Through engaging sessions, behind-the-scenes tours, and real-world discussions, participants gain a better understanding of City services, decision-making, and what it really takes to keep Melissa moving.

Program Details

Schedule: Wednesdays, 6:00–8:00 PM (Dinner provided at 5:30 PM)

Duration: October 8 – December 10, 2025

Location: Varies by topic – sessions held across City departments

Cost: Free to accepted applicants

Who Should Apply?

This program is designed for Melissa residents who:

  • Want to understand how the City of Melissa operates
  • Are active in the community or curious about civic involvement
  • Have a passion for helping friends and neighbors stay informed
  • Are ready to turn interest into impact

Participants must be:

  • 18 years or older
  • A current resident of the City of Melissa
  • Able to commit to attending all 9 sessions

  • How your City government is structured
  • City budgeting and financial decision-making
  • Public safety: police, fire, dispatch, and emergency planning
  • Infrastructure, water, and public works
  • Land use, development, and growth strategy
  • Behind-the-scenes tours of local facilities
  • City myth-busting and how to be an advocate for facts
