Citizen Police Academy

The City of Melissa Police Department is pleased to offer multi-week Citizen's Police Academy each year. Please see below for general program details and course highlights This program provides residents and those who work in Melissa an opportunity to learn more about the inner workings of the police department, its personnel, and its policies. 

Through engaging, hands-on sessions, participants will gain insights into various aspects of police work and develop a deeper understanding of law enforcement's role in the community. Keep up with our social media accounts for announcements about the next Citizen's Police Academy.

Program Details

  • Duration: 9 weeks plus graduation night, every Thursday from January 29 to April 2, 2026
  • Time: 7 PM - 9 PM
  • Location: Public Safety Building, 2402 McKinney Street, Melissa, TX 75454 
    Except for a couple of out-of-classroom field trips
  • Eligibility: Participants must be 18 years or older and either live or work in the City of Melissa. A background check is required.

Course Highlights

  • Insight into patrol operations, investigations, and traffic enforcement
  • Hands-on experience with police equipment and techniques
  • Opportunity to engage with officers and understand community policing
  • Graduation ceremony upon course completion
