About the Fire Control Prevention and Emergency Medical Services District
A Fire Control Prevention and Emergency Medical Services District is a special district allowed under Texas State law to help support fire control programs, operational expenses, and related capital purchases for Fire. The sales tax revenue generated by these districts would be dedicated to Public Safety and utilized to fund enhancements in Fire technology and specialized services. The City of Melissa's ever-changing community offers the district many opportunities to fund additional staff, equipment, and supplies purchases to better protect the Melissa community.
Board of Directors
A quarter-cent sales tax dedicated to the Fire Control Prevention and Emergency Medical Services District was approved by Melissa voters in May 2024. Those sales taxes allocation takes effect in October 2024. Money raised through those sales tax is restricted by law to certain uses related to its stated purposes. The sitting City Council currently serves as the Fire Control Board of Directors.
