| Recycling |
Every Wednesday |
When do I set out my trash and recycling? Every
WEDNESDAY just roll your cart out to the street by 7:00 AM. The cart is
mechanically emptied from inside IESI'S vehicle cab using an automated arm that
clamps on to the cart and lifts it up into the garbage truck.
Where do I set my cart? Proper placement of your cart is
extremely important. Roll your cart to within 3 feet of the edge of the street.
Leave the cart with handle facing your house so that when the cart is lifted,
the lid opens toward the street. Please check to see that it is not obstructed
by parked cars, trailers, boats, etc. If you have more than one cart, make sure
you leave at least 3 ft. between each cart.
What can I put in my cart? All of your household trash
and yard waste can be put in your cart. (Please do not put hot ashes in your
cart)! The maximum weight allowable in your cart is 175 pounds. Important: All
of your trash must fit inside your cart with the lid completely closed. Since
the driver never leaves the vehicle, no trash will be collected if it is on top
of, or beside the carts. The following items WILL NOT be accepted on the
regular trash route:Antifreeze, Batteries, Garden Chemicals, Gasoline,
Hazardous Waste, Pool Chemicals, Wet Paint, and Tires.
What if I have more garbage than the average household?
We encourage you to try your cart for a few weeks before ordering a second
cart. We think you will be surprised at how much it holds. If you should decide
that you require more than one cart, you may call the Utility Billing
Department at 972-838-2035 to order a second cart. You will be charged a
nominal fee for each additional cart.
What
about brush and bulk item collection? On the SECOND SATURDAY OF EVERY
MONTH, IESI will collect bulk items (such as furniture, washers, etc.) and
brush that are not fully containable inside of your cart. Residents may put up
to 5 cubic yards of debris per month for bulk pick up. Tree limbs and brush
must be cut to 5 ft. lengths and bundled.Refrigerators/Freezers & A/C units
containing Freon must have the Freon removed by a certified technician and
tagged with proper certification. (The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
prohibits the disposal of "white goods" containing chlorofluorocarbon
refrigerants "CFCs" (Freon). These items will not be collected without a
certificate of removal of the CFCs. This includes items such as refrigerators,
freezers, and air conditioners.)
MELISSA RECYCLES! Both the City of Melissa and
IESI encourage you to recycle by placing newspapers, magazines, plastic bottles
#1 or #2, glass food and beverage containers, aluminum and tin food or beverage
cans, and empty aerosol cans, in your blue recycling bin that is picked up
every Wednesday. (NO PLATE GLASS!!)
