Activities for Young Adults  MPL TAG_Event Photo

The Melissa Public Library has expanded its activities and programs targeted to young adults through our Teen Activities Group or TAG as it is also known. TAG offers weekly meetings and activities intended for ages 8 to 18. Beginning in February 2018 we have also added a new monthly program - STEAM Saturdays!

Teen Activities Group (TAG) Weekly Meetings

Ages 8 -18 meet EACH THURSDAY, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.  
If you are interested in a service project, leadership opportunities and some teen fun, stop in and bring a friend. 

STEAM Saturdays - NEW!
Starting in February 2018 the Melissa Public Library will offer monthly STEAM programs targeted to tweens and teens, ages 8-18. STEAM is an educational approach to learning that focuses on science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

Here's what we have planned this Winter/Spring:

 January 2018
  • January 11 – Start the New Year! Let’s talk about our New Year’s Resolutions and goals for our group this year!

  • January 18 – Fandom Night! We are writing our own short story fanfiction this week! Bring your fandom and let’s get some ideas started! If you already write fanfiction, perhaps bring an excerpt to share with the group!

  • January 20 – SATURDAY, Babysitting Class, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - CANCELED DUE TO LACK OF REGISTRATIONS
  • January 25 – Puzzles! We will be making our own puzzles! Use popsicle sticks, paper, markers, traditional pieces, etc. and make your own puzzle!

 February 2018
  • February 1 – Teens Make the Game! I will pull out a bunch of supplies and YOU make up the game! Work in teams and then compete! See what it takes to make a successful and fun game!
  • February 8 – Fandom Night! Bring something to share about your fandom!
  • February 15 – Binary Valentines Come make a valentine using coding!
  • February 17 – STEAM Saturday (11am-12pm) – Binary Valentines – make a valentine using coding!
  • February 22 – Zentangle – Make your own creation with patterns in the art form known as zentangle!
March 2018
  • March 1 – Game Night! Play games against each other such as Bag Head and Pop Their Balloon! Don’t know the game? Stop by and play!

  • March 17 – SATURDAY, Babysitting Class, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

  • March 22 – BREAK OUT! Use a computer program to try and “break out” before the timer runs out!

  • March 29 – String art! Come make your own string art!

April 2018
  • April 12 – Fandom Night! This Fandom Night, since it falls on Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Day, we will be reading our favorite lines from tv shows, passages from books, excerpts from fanfiction! Bring something to read aloud!

  • April 19 – Coding Sylvan Learning Center will be on hand to teach us more about coding!

  • April 21 – STEAM Saturday (11am-12pm) – Sylvan Learning Center will be on hand to teach us more about coding!

  • April 26 – Miss Jennifer’s Birthday AND GAME NIGHT! We will have Smash Bag and Truth or Dare with a balloon twist!

May 2018
  • May 3 – Living the Packman Life! We will be playing life sized Pac-Man!

  • May 10 – Mom’s are AMAZING! We are making our mom’s, grandma’s, aunts, etc. Your-Amazing-Grams!

  • May 17 – Fandom Night – Bring something to share about your fandom!

  • May 19 – STEAM Saturday (11am-12pm) – Coding.org Learn more about coding from this interactive website!

  • May 24 – Coding.org Learn more about coding from this interactive website!

  • May 31 – END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR PARTY! Come celebrate with us as school starts coming to an end and summer is kicking off!
